I write a lot about nutrition because I believe it is the most important thing for achieving excellent shape, improving well-being, and health. Furthermore, the absolute majority of people cannot achieve their desired results through training because they do not pay attention to nutrition. But the time has come to talk about the types of training and what specifically you can get from one type of workout or another.
“Cardio” is any type of activity that makes your heart beat faster. It’s not just running and cycling. Skiing, boxing training, dancing are also cardio. If your goal is to burn fat through these activities, you are wasting your time. The point of cardio is to develop and maintain the cardiovascular system (as is clear even from the name itself). Obviously, you burn energy during exercise, but it’s a paltry amount. The average person burns calories equivalent to one croissant during an hour on the treadmill. It’s obviously easier not to eat that croissant than to run for 1 hour. And often, a person under the stress of training will eat not just one croissant (as they did before), but three, thereby provoking even more weight gain. And this is another argument in favor of controlling nutrition first, then training, and only if it makes sense for the specific individual. Next week, we’ll talk about weight training.
